i. What type? Armoured Fighting Vehicles, Armed Helicopters, Artillery, Bladed Weapons, Combat Aircraft, Improvised Explosive Devices, light weapons, mines, small arms

b. Access: Most of the military resources come through the former USSR, china, and North Korea
c. Experience level: 100,000 troops

Provide a short history of the stakeholder group
a. What is their origin? The DRC gained independence in 1960. Since then, it has experienced several dictatorships, notably that of Mobutu Sese Seko who changed the country’s name to Zaire. His regime was one of dictatorship and exploitation, and he was supported by western governments, notably the US. Since 1994, the DRC has experienced civil war and unrest was exacerbated by refugees from the Rwandan Genocide. After Mobutu, Laurent Kabila claimed presidency and in 1998, a rebellion occurred that was supported by Uganda and Rwanda with Sudan supporting the government. Since 1998, an estimated 3.5 million people have died as a direct or indirect result of the conflict. Upon his assassination in 2001, Kabila was replaced by his son, Joseph Kabila.
